The manner in which the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Government of the former junta leader, Julius Maada Bio, continues to use force into everything even when they are detrimental to the peace and stability of the country, is no doubt, a recipe for national unrest. Since coming to power in April last year after a controversial and questionable victory in the 2018 elections, the SLPP has kept bulldozing its way into everything with absolute disregard to due processes.
It all started in the House of Parliament during the Speaker election which saw the forceful eviction from the well, Members of Parliament of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), which consequently resulted in the imposition of both the Speaker and the deputy.
Since then, the SLPP has gone on to illegally remove the former Anti-Corruption Commissioner, the Bank Governor among hundreds of others and replaced them with their imposed choices.
Having gotten away with the above anomalies, the SLPP also went ahead in passing into law, three controversial constitutional instruments establishing the commissions of inquiry amidst many hues and cries of violating the 1991 constitution of Sierra Leone.
And now, the SLPP is on the spotlight again for yet another wrong reason regarding a Presidential Proclamation of a State of Emergency to tackle the spate of rape and sexual violence in the country; a declaration many Sierra Leoneans believe is not only totally unwarranted but also has the proclivity to create unrest in the country.
To worsen the situation, the SLPP was seen trying to manipulate the proclamation into forceful and illegal approval by the Sierra Leone House of Parliament.
Without going into the legality and arguments regarding the declaration, it is worth noting that the continuous use of force in everything by the Paopa SLPP will one day puts the country into chaos as the saying goes, ‘Too Much of Wanting is Good For Nothing’
